200 Amp Panel Upgrades
A 200 amp service gives most homes the capacity for EV charging, heat pumps, induction cooking, and additions — without tripping breakers or running out of panel space. We handle the load calculation, permit, utility coordination, and installation.
- Homes on 60A, 100A, or 125A service adding major electric loads
- Electrification projects replacing gas appliances with heat pumps or induction
- Homes adding an ADU, addition, pool, or spa
- Households planning one or more Level 2 EV chargers
What a 200 amp upgrade includes
- NEC load calculation to confirm 200A is the right size
- New meter/main combination or main panel rated for 200A
- Service conductors, mast or conduit as required by the utility
- Grounding electrode system and bonding brought up to code
- Breaker labeling and transfer of existing circuits
- Permit, inspection, and utility disconnect/reconnect coordination
Overhead vs. underground service
Homes with overhead service drops typically need a new mast and weatherhead sized for the new conductors. Underground services may need the utility to replace or pull new service conductors. We confirm the utility's requirements before scheduling so the upgrade isn't held up at the meter.
Questions
FAQ
Is 200 amps enough for an EV charger and heat pump?
For most single-family homes, yes. The load calculation confirms it based on your actual appliances, square footage, and planned additions.
Can I go bigger than 200 amps?
Some homes with large all-electric loads, multiple EVs, or ADUs need 225A–400A service. We will tell you if 200A is not enough.
How long is the power off?
Typically part of one day, between the utility disconnect and the inspection release for reconnection.
