Subpanel Installation

A subpanel distributes power to a garage, workshop, ADU, or addition from your main panel. We size the feeder and subpanel from a load calculation so you get the circuits you need without overloading your service.

  • ADU and garage conversion subpanels
  • Detached garage and workshop power
  • Kitchen and addition remodels
  • Backup-load subpanels for battery systems
  • Adding breaker space to a full main panel
  • New 200 amp-class meter main panel installed on the side of a home
  • Electrician replacing an aging main disconnect in a multi-meter electrical service

What goes into a code-compliant subpanel

  • Feeder sized for the calculated load and distance (voltage drop)
  • Separated neutral and ground bars at the subpanel
  • Grounding electrode for detached structures
  • Main disconnect where required
  • AFCI/GFCI breakers where required for the served areas

Questions

FAQ

Does a subpanel add capacity to my home?

No. A subpanel adds breaker space and distributes power, but total capacity is still limited by your main service. If the load calculation exceeds your service, a main panel upgrade is needed.

How far can a subpanel be from the main panel?

Distance mainly affects wire size due to voltage drop. Long runs to detached ADUs or garages are common — we size the feeder accordingly.
